The Silly Season is Over: Who’s Where for 2025

All teams have their two drivers signed for 2025, which means the F1 silly season has officially wrapped up after the breaking news of Sergio Perez leaving Red Bull and Liam Lawson taking his place. Now that the grid is set, I’ve given a list of all drivers that will be competing in next year’s thrilling season.

Mclaren-

  • Lando Norris (#4)
  • Oscar Piastri (#81)
    • After both Norris and Piastri contributed to Mclaren winning their first Constructer’s title in 26 years, it’s no surprise that they’re one of only two teams not making any changes to their line-up going into 2025.

Ferrari-

  • Charles Leclerc (#16)
  • Lewis Hamilton (#44)
    • Perhaps the biggest story this past season was Hamilton leaving Mercedes; and going to Ferrari. Ferrari chose to let Carlos Sainz go in favor of the seven-time world champion, keeping Charles Leclerc at the team after he placed third in the Driver’s championship.

Red Bull-

  • Max Verstappen (#1)
  • Liam Lawson (#30)
    • Red Bull aren’t letting Verstappen go after his spectacular show of his talents this past season as he was crowned a four-time world champion in Formula One. (See Maxing Out) However, they did decide to give the boot to Sergio Perez, after the Mexican only scored 152 points out of the 589 Red Bull brought in as a team. Red Bull signed a contract with rookie Liam Lawson, after 2024 saw him stepping in to take Daniel Riccardo’s place at RB.

Mercedes-

  • George Russell (#63)
  • Andrea Kimi Antonelli (#12)
    • After Hamilton’s shock move to Ferrari, Mercedes decided to fill his place with a rookie who was part of the Mercedes Junior Team, Antonelli. George Russell will also be continuing with Mercedes after having a successful season.

Aston Martin-

  • Fernado Alonso (#14)
  • Lance Stroll (#18)
    • Aston Martin has not made any changes to their driver line-up for 2025, but there’s no doubt they will be looking to improve their car as a whole coming into next season after placing fifth in the constructor’s championship, 374 points behind fourth-placed Mercedes.

Alpine-

  • Pierre Gasly (#10)
  • Jack Doohan (#7)
    • Alpine had a wonderful end to the season, the highlight being their double podium in Brazil, and now will be looking to further improve over the winter. Pierre Gasly will be sticking with the team, however Esteban Ocon is leaving to go to Haas. Alpine have put Jack Doohan in his place, and we’ll see how the rookie, and former Alpine reserve driver, can measure up next season.

Haas-

  • Esteban Ocon (#31)
  • Oliver Bearman (#87)
    • The Haas-Ferrari team has an all-new line-up for 2025, with Ocon moving from Alpine and Bearman catching their eye after impressive sub-ins for both Ferrari and Haas themselves.

Racing Bulls-

  • Yuki Tsunoda (#22)
  • Isack Hadjar (#6)
    • The team name may sound unfamiliar to you, but don’t worry, an eleventh team has not joined for 2025. Red Bull’s junior Formula One team, RB, has simply changed names; again. Yuki Tsunoda has been with the team since 2021, and was almost certainly disappointed Lawson got the promotion to Red Bull instead of him. To take Lawson’s place (who had taken Daniel Riccardo’s seat earlier in the season), is Isack Hadjar, yet another rookie in F1.

Williams-

  • Alex Albon (#23)
  • Carlos Sainz (#55)
    • Alex Albon will stay with the Williams team after his former teammate Logan Sargeant was replaced midway through the season with Franco Colopinto. The seat, however, was only filled temporarily. Following the news that Hamilton was moving to Ferrari and taking Sainz’s place, the Spaniard took some time figuring out where he wanted to go before eventually signing a contract with Williams for 2025.

Kick Sauber-

  • Nico Hulkenberg (#27)
  • Gabriel Bortoleto (#5)
    • Sauber also has an all-new driver line-up for 2025. Nico Hulkenberg has moved from Haas to join the neon green team, where he will be teammates with Gabriel Bortoleto, a rookie who won both the Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships before securing his spot in Formula One for the upcoming season. Kick Sauber will be looking to improve for 2025 after finishing last in the standings with a total of four points.
