Kimi Antonelli Becomes Youngest Ever Grand Prix Polesitter in China

Qualifying in China brought lots of excitement, with Kimi Antonelli earning P1 ahead of Russell Hamilton. The Italian also became the youngest ever Grand Prix polesitter, beating the record previously set by Sebastian Vettel. Read below for a full Qualifying report.

Q1 Report:

The first round of qualifying was calm, with all drivers out trying to set the fastest time. This time around Leclerc was quickest ahead of Russell, with Antonelli in third. However, it was disappointment once again for the Williams drivers, as both were eliminated in Q1 yet again. All drivers eliminated were Sainz, Albon, Alonso, Bottas, Stroll, and Perez.

Q2 Report:

Antonelli was the one going fastest in Q2, as his teammate George Russell experienced a small issue. However, the Briton was still able to set a quick time to go to third. Meanwhile, both Red Bulls were able to advance to Q3, and will be hoping for a better qualifying result. Gasly and Bearman were the midfield runners to make in to the top ten shootout. The drivers that were eliminated were Hulkenberg, Colapinto, Ocon, Lawson, Linblad, and Bortoleto.

Q3 Report:

The excitement started shortly into Q3, as Russell stopped on track and reporting something wrong before managing to make his way back to the garage stuck in first gear. Antonelli took advantage and completed some flying laps to put himself right at the top of the timesheets, where he stayed until the session ended, making him the youngest ever Grand Prix polesitter. His teammate George Russell still managed to slot his Mercedes into second place, ahead of Lewis Hamilton in third. The other Ferrari of Charles Leclerc will start fourth, with Piastri and Norris behind. Pierre Gasly got the most out of his Alpine, finishing in seventh ahead of Max Verstappen, while Hadjar and Bearman rounded out the top ten.
