Lewis Hamilton had qualified P2, behind Lando Norris but ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc, but he was being investigated for impeding Oscar Piastri. Now it has been decided that Hamilton will serve a three-place grid penalty for the incident, which drops him out of the top three.
Lewis Hamilton had been unaware of the fact that Piastri was on a flying lap and attempting to improve, which led to the Ferrari driver impeding Piastri and forcing the Aussie to abort his lap. Now with Hamilton’s penalty, Leclerc, Antonelli, and Piastri will bump up one position each.
However, Kimi Antonelli has also been hit with a three-place grid penalty due to a yellow-flag infringement in which he failed to slow down appropriately when the flags were waved. This means that even though he had initially finished fourth and was going to start third after Hamilton was given his penalty, Antonelli will tumble down the order for the Grand Prix tomorrow, thanks to being given his own penalty.
