Formula 1 and the FIA have confirmed that the Sepang International Circuit will serve as the host venue for the Bahrain Grand Prix that was cancelled in the beginning of the 2026 season due to conflict in the Middle East. Final agreements and the official go-ahead are still needed, but all parties, including Formula 1, FIA, the Government of Bahrain, and the Government of Malaysia, have confirmed and agreed to the addition to the calendar. The event will take place from October 2-4, in between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix, at an iconic circuit that first hosted an F1 race in 1999 and continued to host until 2017. It’s a challenging track that’s known for bringing unpredictable weather, as well as sweeping corners and heavy braking zones.
Regarding the news, President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, said, “we are delighted to confirm that Malaysia will host the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2026. Once again, the sport has demonstrated its ability to adapt, find solutions, and deliver, creating an exciting moment for everyone who follows Formula 1. […] Most importantly, this is fantastic news for our fans. They will continue to enjoy a full and exciting Formula 1 calendar, while also seeing the sport return to a great venue. Malaysia is an incredible country, and Sepang holds a special place in Formula 1 history.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia said, “I extend my deepest appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as the Government and people of Bahrain, for the trust and confidence they have placed in Malaysia.
