Grand Prix Qualifying was like a repeat of Sprint Qualifying up at the front of the grid, with George Russell claiming pole position ahead of his teammate Kimi Antonelli and McLaren driver Lando Norris. Below is the full qualifying report.
Q1 Report:
The first part of the qualifying was relatively calm, as Antonelli set the pace and was initially looking quicker than his teammate. Isack Hadjar also was setting some impressive lap times, and Norris and Piastri were still Mercedes’ main challengers. Haas’ weekend is only getting worse, as Esteban Ocon was immediately knocked out in Q1. Alex Albon also got eliminated, in what is shaping up to be a weekend to forget for the Williams driver. Now the pressure is on for the teammates of Ocon and Albon to deliver for their respective teams.
All drivers eliminated in Q1 were Esteban Ocon, Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll, and Valtteri Bottas.
Q2 Report:
Isack Hadjar continued to be quick, as Q2 ended with the young Red Bull driver at the top of the timesheets and leaving people questioning if he could be a threat for pole position. Hamilton was the driver second quickest, with the Mercedes duo back in fourth and fifth. A little farther back, it will be another Q3 appearance for Arvid Lindblad, though his teammate Liam Lawson will not continue after being knocked out. Franco Colapinto also will participate in the top ten shootout, after Alpine has not been looking as strong this weekend.
The drivers who will not be continuing to Q3 are Nico Hulkenberg, Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, Ollie Bearman.
Q3 Report:
Kimi Antonelli had appeared to have pole position locked in as the session came to a close, but George Russell could not be discounted as his set a time at the very end of Q3 that took him to the front of the grid and swiped P1 from his teammate. Behind the two Mercedes is once again Lando Norris, with Oscar Piastri right behind in fourth and Lewis Hamilton in fifth. Max Verstappen was P6, and Isack Hadjar only managed seventh after looking incredibly strong early on in the session. Charles Leclerc was the driver that struggled to find the speed and ended qualifying in eighth, while Lindblad and Colapinto rounded out the top ten.
